The Defined Benefit Plans which we serve professionally are under ever-increasing attack from powerful business and political forces. The number of Plans has decreased by 50% in the last 20 years alone, and more plans come under attack every day. Companies that have recently dismantled or abandoned their Plans include IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sears, and Verizon. Their actions will almost certainly prompt other companies to take similar measures.

To combat this alarming trend, we have organized the Society of Defined Benefit Plan Professionals whose membership is limited exclusively to highly qualified Consultants, Actuaries, Attorneys, Trustees, Administrators, and other Defined Benefit Plan professionals. Our goal is to guarantee that future pension benefits will be there for all those who have earned them, and that the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation will face fewer claims on its resources.

Through advocacy, outreach, and education, The Society will promote, protect, and preserve the Defined Benefit Plan system and advocate enhancements that will insure its future viability. Our target audiences include federal, state, county, and city legislators, governmental agencies, business organizations, financial and educational institutions, selected media, and the general public. To all of these audiences, we will demonstrate compellingly the multiple advantages of preserving the Defined Benefit Plan system.
